Biography

I acquired my biology education from the National University of Mexico (UNAM), with emphasis on evolution and cell imaging techniques.
I am fascinated with fundamental biological questions concerning the origin of life and the origin of eukaryotes. More specifically, I am interested in the evolution of cell complexity and diversity in unicellular microorganisms. I address some aspects of these questions using an evolutionary cell biology approach. Here, I am working on bacteria, archaea, and unicellular eukaryotes and combine experimental with phylologentical and evolutionary narratives on early cell evolution
